Before Sunrise takes you to a memorable walk across Vienna in company of two young people. Jessy is an extrovert American boy who is travelling through Europe, and Cecile is a clever French student. They meet on a train and they spend together the last night of Jesse in europe.
Before Sunrise is more than a romantic movie where the actors are slowly falling in love. It’s a deep movie also for your mind, that invite you to reflect. Of the blend of sentimentality, rationality and mood results this witty and intelligent comedy drama.
With “Dazed and Confused” and “Slacker”, the director Richard Linklater knew how to delve into young experiences in the nineties. He was capable of showing the poignant relationships between people that is in love but life doesn’t permit them stay together.
It’s a credible plot that we would like to come true in our lifes or, for the luckier people, it even can make them remember some of their own past experiences. However some people can think that there are some far-fetched details according to the content, but they could be possible in a fantastic real night.
Although the two characters are speaking through all movie, we don’t have the feeling of an excessive talk. At the contrary, the deep dialogues, with an usual touch of humor, help to create an easy going film. From the beginning until the end, the actors have different and interesting conversations about love, sex, relationships, existential doubts, philosophy, family, religion and even death. We really like it because in real life we are actually tired of the same kind of superficial dialogues between to people who has just met. They improvise dialogues that drive the movie in different and unexpected places of Vienna. This city is showed as a croos cultural and a romantic place.
The brilliant and fresh interpretation of the talented actors Ethan Hawke –Jesse- and Julie Delpy –Celine- contribute to do credible the plot. Music and photography are also amazing and they work together with the narration to create a magic and sweet atmosphere.
We get ungry when the sunrise arrives and we want to keep listening their conversations. We would like to know what it’s going to happen in the future.
You can love or hate this movie, because it can seem so amazing or so bored respectively; but what it’s universal is that you won’t remain passive.
